The Northwestern Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NWCCI) has received multiple concerns from the business community in Solwezi regarding the garnishing of accounts by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA). These concerns primarily revolve around the lack of prior engagement from ZRA and the garnishing of accounts belonging to businesses that may not have any pending liabilities with ZRA.
In response to these pressing concerns, NWCCI President Ms. Kayula Lombanya and NWCCI CEO Mr. Mukuka Mulenga held discussions with ZRA earlier today to seek an amicable resolution. During the engagement, NWCCI emphasized the potential negative effects of such aggressive actions being taken without thorough prior engagement and due diligence.
We have formally requested ZRA to:
- Immediately lift the garnishing orders on businesses that do not have outstanding liabilities.
- Respect prior engagement protocols with affected companies before imposing such drastic measures.
NWCCI is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to ensuring a swift resolution that protects the interests of the business community. We hope this matter will be resolved promptly, and we will continue to engage with all relevant stakeholders.
Stay blessed.
